The RTE Concert Orchestra join Galway Baroque Singers for ‘A Gilbert and Sullivan Extravaganza’ in Leisureland on Saturday 22 October. The extravaganza features a full performance of ‘Trial by Jury’, the one act comic opera with a ludicrous satirical plot concerning ‘a breach of promise of marriage’ lawsuit that is typically Gilbert and Sullivan.
The concert will also feature extended excerpts from other favourites, including ‘Pinafore’, ‘Mikado’, ‘Gondoliers’ and many more. Joining the choir are six leading English soloists who are all well known on the opera circuit in the UK.
The singers also welcome British conductor John Wilson who is fast becoming known internationally. He is the Principal Guest Conductor of the RTECO for the past two years and recently conducted his own orchestra in the BBC Proms.
Tickets are €22 (€18 concession) and are on sale at Charlie Byrne’s Bookshop, Middle Street. Call 091-561766 to book. The concert begins at 8pm but doors open at 7.30pm.
