The Town Hall Theatre Galway is to be the venue for Conal Morrison's award-winning adaptation of Patrick Kavanagh's novel, Tarry Flynn, from Tuesday 3 to Sunday 8 August.
Set in 1930s Cavan, Tarry is a farmer poet on a quest for big fields, young ones and the meaning of his existence.
The play follows him on his quest as he discovers beauty in rural life, all the while searching gallantly for that oh-so-important kiss.
Morrison's adaptation of this original Abbey Theatre production gave this Irish novel a whole new experience in terms of choreography and movement, making it a massive hit in the 1990s. Due to the sheer size of its production, Tarry Flynn was never presented outside Dublin, until now.
The cast of over 60 members, live musicians, choreographed animals, with design by Owen MacCarthaigh and direction by Andrew Flynn, are dedicated to illustrating the raw wonder of Kavanagh's portrayal of rural 1930s Cavan and the enduring landscape that surrounds it.
The cast has been drawn from a wide selection of Galway's finest acting communities, including lead actors from amateur drama societies, members of Galway Youth Theatre and also people just new to the world of theatre. Famous Galway traditional musician Sean Moloney will be providing the production's music.
Booking is now open at the Town Hall Theatre on 091-569777 or online at www.tht.ie.
