Deviant jazz

A jazz influenced session of classic ‘skratch’ music will fill the Town Hall Theatre Studio at the end of this month when Deviant and Sebi C perform on as part of Galway Jazz Festival. A familiar presence on the Irish live circuit, Deviant has been musically active since 2001.

He will be performing an entirely new skratch music piece composed on two turntables, utilising both conventional 12" vinyl and modern digital vinyl manipulation technologies. Every sound in the performance has been recorded from original vinyl records, distorted by hand in real-time, celebrating the accidental and the erroneous.

The second half of the show is a reunion of Deviant and Sebi C's cult experimental rap group the Flying Buttresses. While Deviant provides the backbone of instrumentation, rapper Sebi C overlays complex, multi-syllabic rhymes and scattered vocal inflections.

Deviant and Sebi C perform on Friday 30 September. Tickets are €7 from the Town Hall Theatre.
